“Chuck Lin and team have built and launched multiple websites for my company since 2003. Their work is proficient and cutting edge, and they always have suggestions for new and creative technologies to address particular needs. Nothing ever seems too difficult for them — very anxiety-soothing for the less techno-savvy among us. No less important, you won’t meet a smarter, more patient, or NICER group of professionals. I highly recommended their services.”

You've heard all the buzz words - let us help you untangle the world of virtualization and choose the right solution for your company. [...]

Whether it’s cloud computing or a virtual work environment, virtualization is a topic bound to pop up in any tech company’s infrastructure discussion. The choices involved can be daunting to someone unfamiliar with the technologies involved.

Should you store your company’s data in a cloud? If so, which cloud solution meets your needs? Should your developers work in a virtual environment? What about a secure VPN? Should you build your own cloud?

We help companies navigate through these options and build a modern virtual work environment. We configure the desired environment, and train software teams to properly use software repositories and revision control systems. Creating an Agile workflow requires a solid development environment that can change rapidly. We’ll let you concentrate on the rest.

There are a number of open source and commercial virtualization solutions out there, and we have the expertise to provide support you can feel secure about for your company. We believe in the virtual office and we practice what we preach with our own team.

Picture your nemesis: the slightly bored 17 year old hacker sitting at an Internet cafe in a city you cannot pronounce. He’s got time and persistence. He’ll knock on every door till he gets in, or if he can’t hack in, he’ll flood your server with packets from his bot army. Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters?

We’re here and we’re on your side. Whether you need us to squeeze out every bit of network performance, build resilient network topology, or boot hackers out of your network, we’ll get the job done. We offer complete managed physical and virtual infrastructure for your organization with security and performance as a top priority. We’ve built the infrastructure for high traffic sites, enterprise networks for corporations, and storage systems capable of powering the next streaming sensation.

If you don’t want to bother with all that, we’ll put your server on our network in one of our datacenters. We’re bi-coastal, but our parents love us anyway.

We currently have available space in power in our New York and Seattle DC’s. If you are in need of small footprint co-location with small or large bandwidth requirements we can offer highly competitive rates at this time. We’re also offering VPS instances of all kinds starting at $30/mo; specializing in low traffic 24×7 nodes. Please contact us for more information.

Yeah, we hear that a lot. Is there an alternative that doesn’t suck? You bet! At DefaultRoute, we like using our Zimbra solution. It offers a desktop client software, an awesome webmail / collaboration system and great support for mobile users – all at a reasonable price per user. We can provide custom dedicated instances of Zimbra for your organization, featuring custom additions such as block level disk encryption, snapshots and offline backups.

Of course, if it’s just straight email that you need, we can help you with SMTP and IMAP ( or POP if you must ).

Need a project management system? We can also host and manage ActiveCollab for you. It’s an excellent alternative to Basecamp without the high monthly cost.

We’re also big fans of the DimDim conferencing suite.

LAMP is the engine that powers the Internet and we're the mechanics. We will tune the crap out of your box or help you build a new one that is designed to SCREAM! [...]

So your beta site has launched, and it’s a smashing success! You realize that you need to move from your current hosted environment to your own dedicated instance or machine. Hours of frantic forum searches for your precise issue is just not cutting it, and the guy that usually helps you out seems to answer his pager less and less. We can help you migrate to your own server, fine-tune your configuration files or work as your emergency go-to team.

Lets face it, you didn’t set out to become a SysAdmin. We’ll help make your server FLY and lock things down from those pesky hackers. If you need to build multiple layers of redundant load balanced systems we can help you do that too. We even have a custom product that will centralize configuration management and give your system environment revision control which you rely on for your code.

BTW we’re also experts in lots of other UNIX variants and all those services running on the machine. Who needs a full time systems staff? We’ll build it right so that you can spend more time on building the killer app, just don’t forget to invite us to the BBQ.

We’re much more than that. We’ll show you how we built the official Atlanta Falcons site using WordPress.
Lorraine’s fascination with geek culture and coding began with her late-night installs of Linux and FreeBSD while in college. Who knew that one day video conferencing wouldn’t require a kernel modification?

A restless spirit landed her in software and web development positions at places varying from the corporate (Forbes.com) to the non-profit (Brooklyn Museum).

But how to merge a tech background with a love of nature? A summer of garden design classes and a move to Seattle! This passionate reawakening prompted a shift into marketing, specifically for a ecologically-minded architecture firm.

So lady, what are you doing here at DefaultRoute? You can take the girl out of New Jersey, but you can’t take the geek out of the girl. She thinks we’re up to something cool, and she believes in the people. She’ll even convince you that we can work on your project and get it done right. Seriously.

You can read Lorraine’s food and garden blog over at Bread & Buttercups.

She’s also in love with finding new music, and started up a group called AudioKitten.

Over the fifteen years he’s worked the web, Aidrian has held positions as a graphic designer, 3D animator, Flash coder, front end specialist, and both a PHP and ASP server-side man.

Four years at Razorfish as a Presentation Layer Developer helped him hone his front end skills to a level of mastery, and working as a soup-to-nuts single-solution resource at unit.one.studios for the duration of his career has made him a bang-up project manager and client partner.

When he’s not beating websites into submission, Aidrian both practices and teaches sacred geometry, and likes to conduct weird sustainable living experiments in his home.

They embrace technology and see the web as part of the team. We work closely with the Online Media Team at the Atlanta Falcons to produce an organic website that values the fans as part of the content strategy.

The Falcons site provides up-to-the-minute news and information on the team and the players with content that is gathered from the organization as well as fan sites. DefaultRoute was involved in every step of the process, from information architecture, systems architecture, programming, and ultimately launching the new site in 2010.

Although DefaultRoute is not based in Atlanta, the Falcons are now our favorite team. Go Falcons!

Mike co-founded DefaultRoute, Inc. in January 2008 with his good friend and colleague Chuck Lin. Also, just thought we’d tell you that he’s in a long-term relationship with Unix and open source software. We don’t want to boast but they’ve been tight for years.

Mike’s always on the lookout for innovative solutions to web traffic surges, ways to keep his servers secure, and telling everyone that they’re crazy for not using encryption everywhere. We know, we know.. (that you’re right).

Mike heads our Operations Management group, and manages the infrastructure that powers all of our hosted products and services. He also oversees the administrative and financial operations of the company. His concerns for security, reliability, and cohesiveness in the infrastructure of DefaultRoute are just some of the reasons why he’s a great part of the team.

Mike lives in Seattle, WA with his wife and daughter. He enjoys British pop from the 80′s, photography, and staring at Mt. Rainier.
